Kazakhstan became the world leader in gold sales in the third quarter of 2024, with a total volume of 12.85 tons, according to information from the press service of the World Gold Council.
From January to October 2024, global gold sales reached 694 tons. During the first half of 2024, Switzerland imported 82 tons of gold from Uzbekistan and 21 tons from Kazakhstan. British customs data indicate that all imported gold products from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are delivered to Switzerland without intermediaries.
In 2023, Switzerland purchased 130 tons of gold from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. Of this, 59 tons were delivered from Kazakhstan, with 58 tons transiting through the United Kingdom and 1 ton through Kyrgyzstan.
According to the Council’s report, Kazakhstan’s gold reserves amounted to 285.9 tons by the third quarter of 2024, placing the country second in Central Asia after Uzbekistan, which has 373.86 tons. Meanwhile, the National Bank of Kazakhstan continues to increase its gold reserves.
Kyrgyzstan has also increased its gold reserves by 2 tons, bringing total purchases since the beginning of the year to 6 tons.
