Kazakhstan ranked 4th with 43 suspicious games in 2022 in various sports, mainly in football, basketball, etc. These are the anti-rating data of the sports analytical company Sportradar, which measured the level of sports corruption in the world, Zakon.kz reports.

Worse than in Kazakhstan, the situation was in Brazil (152 suspicious matches), Russia (92 matches) and the Czech Republic (56 matches), better - in China (41 matches), Greece (40 matches) and Argentina (39 matches).

In the context of macro-regions, the largest number of suspicious matches was recorded in Europe: 630.

Asia and South America are next with 240 and 225 matches, respectively. Africa accounted for 93 suspicious matches, while North America accounted for 23. At the same time, a significant increase in the number of suspicious matches was noted in Africa and South America: by 82% and 72% yoy, respectively.

In 2022, 1,212 sports matches were highly suspicious, a total increase of 307 matches compared to 2021 (+34%). The figure surpassed 1,000 sports competitions for the first time since the launch of the Universal Fraud Detection System in 2015, the study said.

There were 1188 suspicious matches in men's competitions, 24 matches in women's competitions. The surge in the number of suspicious matches in sports came as a result of the economic turmoil that hit much of the world in 2022.

As a result, outside of the top echelons, many competitions, teams and athletes have faced increasing financial pressure, which has undoubtedly had a negative impact on this trend, writes Ranking.kz.

Most corruption is noted in football, basketball and tennis. Next comes table tennis, esports and other type of sports.

On March 3, it became known that the list of corruption crimes is expanding in Kazakhstan.
