Gas shortages are possible in Kazakhstan, Deputy Energy Minister of Kazakhstan Zhandos Nurmaganbetov said.

Now the Ministry of Energy is considering regulating gas prices for producers in order to stimulate their interest in developing gas for the domestic market, Spunick reports.

The representative of the department noted that the draft law "On amendments and additions to certain legislative acts of Kazakhstan on the regulation of the circulation of liquefied gas and housing and communal services" also concerns the regulation of the domestic market.

Nurmaganbetov announced the government's decisions on wholesale and retail gas prices, as well as measures to ensure the uninterrupted supply of gas to all regions of the country. In 2022, gas consumption increased by 400 cubic meters per hour. However, production volumes in Kazakhstan are not enough, so the department contracted the purchase of gas from large producers, including TCO, to supply regions where there is a shortage of gas.

Vice Minister of Kazakhstan noted that it is necessary to balance the interests of producers and consumers and stimulate the development of gas in the domestic market.
