In 2024, trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan showed positive dynamics in several key areas.
The most notable increase was in imports from Turkmenistan, which nearly doubled to 144.3 thousand tons. In monetary terms, supply volume rose by 32.8%, reaching $220.7 million, Orient.tm reports.
Among the most in-demand products from Turkmenistan was natural gas, whose volume increased 1.5 times, reaching 608.3 million cubic meters.
Other significant increases in Turkmenistan’s exports to Kazakhstan include:
- Ceramic products (toilets, bidets, sinks) – up 1.5 times (106.7 thousand units);
- Plastic tableware and containers – up 2.4 times (430.3 tons);
- Sulfuric acid and oleum – up 178.4 times (66.9 thousand tons);
- Turkmen furniture – up 38.7% (155.7 tons);
- Clothing and bedding – up 38.8% (1.5 thousand tons);
- Turkmen tomatoes also gained popularity in the Kazakh market, with imports reaching 41.3 thousand tons (+16.2%).
Kazakhstan’s exports also showed growth in several categories. Shipments to Turkmenistan increased:
- Potatoes – up 2.2 times (18.5 thousand tons);
- Instant coffee – up 1.5 times (993 tons).
In 2024, Kazakhstan began supplying vegetable oil to Turkmenistan, exceeding 10 thousand tons.
Additionally, exports of ferrous metals and metal products rose 2.1 times (83.1 thousand tons), while shipments of asbestos and barium sulfate increased by 34.5% (70.5 thousand tons).
Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan have set a goal to increase trade turnover to $1 billion per year.
