Electricity consumption in Kazakhstan increased to 115 billion kWh in 2023 from 112.9 billion kWh the previous year, while its production remained at 112.8 billion kWh, stated Almasadam Satkaliyev, the Minister of Energy, Kursiv.kz reports.

"In 2023, the volume of electricity consumption was at the level of 115 billion kWh (112.9 billion kWh in 2022), and electricity production amounted to 112.8 billion kWh (112.8 billion kWh in 2022). At the same time, the import of electricity from neighboring countries was 3.4 billion kWh, and the export was 1.4 billion kWh," he said at a meeting of the Kazakhstan government.

As of the beginning of this year, the total installed capacity of power stations is 20.4 GW, and the operating capacity is 15.4 GW. The maximum consumption in the current autumn-winter heating season was 16.6 GW, and the maximum generation was 15.1 GW. The average level of equipment wear at stations is 56%.

According to Satkaliyev, the Unified Power System of Kazakhstan operates in normal mode in parallel with the power systems of the Russian Federation and Central Asian countries.
