Kazakhstan's grain and flour exports in grain equivalent reached 13.1 million tonnes from September 2025 to June 2026, an increase of 13% compared to the previous season, Kazpravda.kz reported.

The main supply destinations were Central Asian countries and Afghanistan, where demand for Kazakhstani agricultural products continues to grow.

The growth of grain production and exports in Kazakhstan is particularly important amid global food security risks associated with climate change, droughts, and unstable supplies from several traditional agricultural regions. Kazakhstan, one of the largest wheat producers in Eurasia, is gradually strengthening its role as a reliable supplier of grain crops to neighboring countries and international markets.

Over the past five years, Kazakhstan's grain and flour exports have demonstrated stable growth. In 2021, supply volumes were approximately 8.7 million tons, in 2022 – approximately 9.2 million tons, in 2023 – approximately 10 million tons, in 2024 – approximately 12 million tons, and in the 2025–2026 agricultural season, the figure reached 13.1 million tons.

2022 ██████████ 9.2 million tons
2023 ███████████ 10.0 million tons
2024 █████████████ 12.0 million tons
2025/26 ███████████████ 13.1 million tons

Increase Kazakhstan's exports have a direct impact on the stability of food supplies in Central Asia, where many countries rely on grain imports. Supplies to Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, and Turkmenistan are particularly important, as population growth and the development of the food industry increase the demand for flour and grains.

Importing Country Export Volume

Change Compared with

Previous Season

Uzbekistan 5.5 mln tonnes +38% (from 3.9 mln tonnes)
Afghanistan 2.2 mln tonnes +59% (from 1.4 mln tonnes)
Tajikistan ≈1.0–1.3 mln tonnes Growth in recent years
Kyrgyzstan 504 thsnd tonnes +40% (from 357 thsnd tonnes)
Turkmenistan 205 thsnd tonnes +37% (from 150 thsnd tonnes)

For global consumers, expanding Kazakh supply means an additional source of high-quality wheat and a reduced risk of shortages in regional markets. Kazakhstan also has the opportunity to strengthen its position on international grain routes, including routes to China, Iran, the Caucasus, and other markets.

In the future, increased harvests and development of transport infrastructure could transform Kazakhstan into a key player in the global grain supply chain, capable of partially offsetting disruptions in the global food market.
