Kazakhstan plans to establish a shipbuilding plant based on existing industrial facilities, and the shipbuilding production is likely to be financed through the Industrial Development Fund, stated Marat Karabayev, the Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan, during a government meeting, Vlast.kz reports.

"In particular, the possibility of using the capacities of the company 'YerSai,' which has relevant metal construction production, is being considered," Karabayev explained.

According to him, companies such as YDA, Asfat, and ADP have expressed potential interest in implementing the "Shipyard" project. The plant's workload will be ensured by the demand for commercial and government vessels. Additionally, over 150 vessels require repair, which can also be performed at the Kazakh shipyard, emphasized the head of the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan.

He also added that at the initial stage, there is a need to build 10 new vessels, including three tankers, three dry cargo ships, and four universal ferries.

"Before the establishment of a Kazakh shipbuilding plant, the option of placing an order for the construction of a vessel at one of the Caspian shipyards is being considered," the minister clarified.

Karabayev further noted that new ship models are being designed by Kazmortransflot. As part of state support, the possibility of financing shipbuilding production through the Industrial Development Fund is under consideration.
