In Kazakhstan, the deficit of aviation fuel is about 300 thousand tons per year, stated Marat Karabayev, the Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan, Kazinform reports.
"At present, the deficit of aviation fuel in Kazakhstan is about 300 thousand tons per year. We plan to address this by increasing the amount of imported aviation fuel, including from China. We are also considering the JET A-1 fuel. For this purpose, the refueling complex at Almaty airport is being modernized and will switch to using this type of aviation fuel from June 2024," said Marat Karabayev.
The Minister noted that the reorientation of domestic plants' production to produce JET A-1 fuel would not lead to a significant increase in aviation fuel volumes.
Furthermore, substantial funds are required to adapt the infrastructure of all airports to handle JET A-1.
"Therefore, airports, considering their capabilities, will gradually transition to using this type of fuel depending on their needs. Additionally, to eliminate intermediary structures that affect the final cost of aviation fuel, the question of direct purchases of imported aviation fuel from foreign oil refineries is being explored," added Marat Karabayev.
