Kazakhstan slightly increased trade with Central Asian countries

Kazakhstan's trade turnover with Central Asian countries grew by 1.9%. The export and import of Kazakhstan with Central Asian countries are quite extensive. In annual terms, the share of Kazakhstan's imports slightly decreased, while exports increased by 3.28%, Zakon.kz reports.

Kazakhstan's trade turnover with Central Asian countries for the first half of 2023 amounted to $3.668 billion, which is $68.37 million, or 1.9%, higher compared to the same period last year ($3.599 billion). The volume of exports increased by $81.81 million, or 3.28%, reaching $2.579 billion compared to $2.497 billion from January to June 2022, according to the report from Kazakhstan's National Statistics Bureau.

Kazakhstan's import indicators slightly decreased. The volume of imports for the first half of this year decreased by $3.42 million (-0.32%), amounting to $1.09 billion compared to $1.092 billion in January to June 2022.

Uzbekistan is Kazakhstan's largest trading partner. Its share in the overall trade turnover is 3.3% (compared to 3.4% in the first half of 2022). For January to June, the trade turnover between the two countries increased by 0.3% to $2.222 billion compared to $2.216 billion the previous year. The volume of exports for the half-year period decreased slightly from $1.653 billion to $1.604 billion. Imports grew from $562.31 million to $618.64 million.

Kyrgyzstan ranks second in terms of trade volume in Central Asia. The trade turnover between the countries grew by 13.73% annually, from $567.53 million to $645.48 million. The volume of exports for the half-year period increased from $322.87 million to $407.48 million. Imports slightly increased from $234.66 million to $238 million.

The trade volume with Tajikistan decreased by 9.69% to $557.4 million from $617.22 million last year. Imports decreased from $255.13 million to $170.23 million. However, Kazakhstan's exports to Tajikistan increased from $362.09 million to $387.17 million.

Trade turnover with Turkmenistan sharply increased by 21.87%, from $199.21 million to $242.77 million. Both export and import volumes increased. Shipments from Kazakhstan grew from $159.69 million to $181.45 million, while imported volumes increased from $39.52 million in January-June 2022 to $61.31 million for the first half of 2023.

Kazakhstan's total foreign trade turnover exceeds $67 billion. Kazakhstan currently has trade relations with 205 countries around the world. The country's major trading partners are China and Russia.
