Recommendations in the field of agricultural development and measures to ensure food security in Kazakhstan were considered at a meeting of the Council for Improving the Investment Climate chaired by Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov.
The event was attended by the ambassadors of Canada, Great Britain and the European Union in Kazakhstan, representatives of the American Chamber of Commerce, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Asian Development Bank, heads of central government agencies and a number of private companies.
“The policy pursued by us in the field of development of the agro-industrial complex is primarily aimed at providing the domestic market with domestic food products. Last year, we adopted the Food Security Plan until 2024, and as part of the diversification of agriculture, the Concept for the Development of the Agro-Industrial Complex until 2030 is being implemented,” Smailov said.
At the same time, one of the important factors in ensuring food security is the process of adaptation to climate change. To this end, Kazakhstan is working on a phased transition to alternative energy sources and increasing energy efficiency.
“Sustainable management of water and land resources is also a critical area for us. Currently, on behalf of the President, a new Water Code is being developed. Work continues to diversify the structure of sown areas and active measures are being taken to increase irrigated lands,” the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan noted.
At the meeting, the participants discussed the development of the dairy industry and other sectors of agriculture in Kazakhstan, import and export of products, state regulation, subsidies, attracting investments, commodity exchanges, innovation, industry education and a number of others.
