China will invest 1 billion yuan (approximately $137 million) in the construction of a transport and logistics hub in the Almaty agglomeration of Kazakhstan, Sputnik Kazakhstan reports.
Member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the Communist Party of Xinjiang, Ma Xingrui, met with the Chairman of the Board of Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ), Nurlan Sauranbayev, in Urumqi to discuss investment plans.
Ma Xingrui stated that rail freight traffic between Kazakhstan and China continues to grow, reaching a record 32 million tons in 2024.
"Plans for 2025–2026 have been outlined, including the creation of a transport and logistics hub in the Almaty agglomeration, the development of the Dostyk-Alashankou border crossing, and the expedited construction of the Bakhty-Ayagoz railway line," KTZ reported.
It was noted that a joint commission involving state authorities should be established for overall coordination of cargo transportation by all modes of transport.
