The Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan held a meeting with representatives of Kazakh companies and discussed plans to increase the production capacity of the Shymkent Oil Refinery, the ministry's press service reported.
The working meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Energy, KazMunayGas, PetroKazakhstan Oil Products LLP, and CNPC. Upon completion of the project, the refinery is expected to process up to 12 million tons of oil annually. This will significantly increase fuel production: gasoline by 700,000 tons, aviation fuel by 700,000 tons, and diesel fuel by 3.9 million tons.
The Ministry of Energy announced that the expected commissioning date for the new facilities is set for 2030. As part of efforts to implement this initiative, the ministry, in cooperation with other government bodies, has developed a draft intergovernmental agreement between Kazakhstan and China.
The agreement includes providing state support, including the provision of necessary raw materials, infrastructure, and energy resources, as well as compliance with international standards and commitments from investors. This project is part of a list of at least 15 major projects aimed at creating high-processing clusters in key areas, in line with the president's directives.
Previously, the Ministry of Energy stated that expanding existing oil refineries could be a good alternative to building new refinery complexes.
