Kazakhstan over past 3 years increased funding for science by 3 times

Financing of science in the Republic of Kazakhstan has increased 3 times over the past three years. Also, funds for the commercialization of scientific projects increased by 4 times. This year, basic funding has been provided to 54 scientific organizations, said Minister of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek, reporting on the development of domestic science at the Government Hour in the Mazhilis.

The funds will be used to equip laboratories, develop innovative products and increase the salaries of scientists.

The development of science and innovation is one of the key priorities of the New Economic Development Course. Projects for the commercialization of the results of scientific and scientific-technical activities are being successfully implemented, the minister said.

“Firstly, income from the sale of innovative products as a result of commercialization projects amounted to 22.6 billion tenge. Secondly, the volume of taxes paid amounted to 5.7 billion tenge. Thirdly, products worth 465.5 million tenge were exported. Fourthly, the volume of private financing amounted to about 6.8 billion tenge. More than 1,400 people have been provided with jobs,” said S. Nurbek.

He also spoke about the country's scientific potential. According to the latest data, more than 22 thousand scientists are working today. 37% of researchers have an academic or academic degree.
