The authorities of Kazakhstan admitted the possibility of a one-time legalization of right-hand drive vehicles imported earlier into the country. Currently, the relevant state services of the country are conducting preparatory work in order to enable their owners to issue a right-hand drive car, the Zakon.kz portal reports.
This was told at the plenary session of the Senate by acting Chairman of the Administrative Police Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan Kaisar Sultanbaev.
At a meeting of the Senate of Kazakhstan, deputy Nurlan Beknazarov recalled that a legislative ban on the operation of right-hand drive cars has been established in Kazakhstan. At the same time, some citizens have already imported such cars into the country and now they cannot register them.
The senator also added that in his Address dated September 1, 2022, the president set the task of carrying out a one-time legalization of foreign cars imported into Kazakhstan before September 1, 2022 and not passed state registration in accordance with the law.
"Today, in connection with the order of the head of state, we are working on a one-time legalization of vehicles, and only recently we have made appropriate amendments that right-hand drive vehicles will be included in the one-time legalization of state registration. Now there are about 20 thousand such cars," said acting Chairman of the Administrative Police Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan Kaisar Sultanbaev.
Earlier, the Interior Ministry said that the fee for the initial registration of a car will be 200,000 tenge.
One American dollar in Kazakhstan costs 467 Kazakh tenge.
