Kazakhstan’s Halyk Bank has become the first commercial bank in the country to sign a bilateral credit agreement with China’s Export-Import Bank (Exim Bank). The loan, totaling 1.45 billion Chinese yuan (approximately $206 million), will finance Kazakh companies importing goods, services, and technologies from China, Zakon.kz reports.

The bank noted that the agreement strengthens Halyk’s role as a key financial partner for the real sector and expands the range of financial solutions available to business clients. The new funds will allow the bank to offer more favorable lending terms, stimulate investment activity among enterprises, and improve operational efficiency, supporting Kazakhstan’s overall economic development.

“Halyk aims to provide businesses with financial tools that promote growth, modernization, and efficiency. Earlier in 2024, the bank secured a $300 million syndicated loan and issued green bonds worth 20 billion tenge on the KASE. The agreement with China’s Exim Bank is another step in diversifying the bank’s funding sources,” said Murat Koshenov, Deputy Chairman of Halyk Bank.
