Throughout 2024, Kazakhstan's national security agencies foiled preparations for four terrorist attacks. According to materials from the National Security Committee (NSC), 84 individuals were convicted for terrorism and extremism, and 44 were detained, reports Ritmeurasia.ru.
Six Kazakh nationals wanted for terrorism-related crimes were extradited from Syria and Turkey, with two already convicted. Additionally, attempts by 824 foreigners linked to terrorism and extremism to enter Kazakhstan were thwarted.
These facts and figures were presented by NSC Chairman Yermek Sagimbayev to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The report also highlighted:
- Collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs to neutralize 19 organized criminal groups, leading to the arrest of 60 individuals and the seizure of firearms, explosive devices, and ammunition.
- Dismantling 33 drug production laboratories and intercepting 70 drug transportation channels. Over 3.2 tons of narcotics, 4.5 tons of raw opium straw, and 18.8 tons of precursors were confiscated, with 162 individuals convicted for drug-related offenses.
- Border control measures that apprehended approximately 55,000 violators and prevented over 1,300 attempts to smuggle weapons, ammunition, and drugs. Illegal transport of 18 billion tenge in currency and 66 billion tenge worth of goods was stopped, along with the neutralization of 20 illegal migration channels.
