Kyrgyzstan's Kumtor mine intends to extract over 4.5 tons of gold from waste annually

The Kumtor gold mining enterprise of Kyrgyzstan produced 17.3 tons of gold in 2022. Since the beginning of the year, the company has transferred taxes and mandatory payments in the amount of 32.1 billion soms, 2 billion soms more than the plan. That is, the plan for deductions to the state budget of Kyrgyzstan was exceeded by 6.6%, President of Kumtor Gold Company CJSC Almaz Baryktabasov said, the press service of the President of Kyrgyzstan reported.

Baryktabasov spoke at a working meeting held by the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov with the participation of mining industry leaders and representatives of the Government of Kyrgyzstan. The meeting reviewed the report on the production activities of Kumtor Gold Company CJSC for 2022 and plans for the near future.

Baryktabasov also spoke about plans to process waste in the tailing dump at the mine in order to extract gold using modern technologies.

Waste in the tailings will be processed into a semi-dry harmless mixture.

From 2026, the extraction of gold from the secondary processing of the tailing dump will begin, it is planned to extract about 4.7 tons of gold annually.

It is planned to complete the tailings waste processing by 2040, the total cost of gold extracted from the tailings is estimated at about 3.5 billion US dollars.

Thus, it will be possible to completely process the tailings waste into a harmless semi-dry mixture and at the same time obtain economic benefits from the extraction of gold.
