On the night of February 2, an accident occurred at the Bishkek Thermal Power Plant (TPP). In connection with the emergency situation in the capital of the state, President Sadyr Japarov commented on the situation, Economist.kg reports.
He emphasized that the Bishkek TPP was commissioned in 1961, even older than him. And just as iron has a shelf life, everything ages over time. Every year, the authorities conduct repairs in the summer to prepare for winter.
Japarov also noted that the essence of the matter is that the accident occurred in the old part of the TPP. He believes that for $386 million, the old TPP could have been completely renovated instead of partial modernization. Alternatively, a new TPP could have been built from scratch for $300 million, as in neighboring countries.
"I have instructed to carry out a complete modernization of the TPP. Of course, a large amount of money is needed for this. But we will somehow find sources of funding," concluded Japarov.
On the night of February 2, an accident occurred at the Bishkek TPP. According to the latest data confirmed by the Kyrgyzstan Ministry of Emergency Situations, an explosion occurred inside a room where coal dust and other gas waste had accumulated, which exploded for unknown reasons. It is noted that all 14 water heaters were not affected.
Due to the accident, schools and kindergartens in the capital have switched to online learning. Some southern districts of the capital are without heating and hot water. An operational headquarters has been created to address the consequences of the incident. President Sadyr Japarov has taken personal control of the situation. As a result of the emergency, five people were injured, three were hospitalized, two of them in critical condition. Two more refused hospitalization.
