Kyrgyzstan’s State Committee for National Security (SCNS) Chairman Kamchybek Tashiev announced that more than 300 billion ($3,4 bln) som in damages has been recovered for the state over five years of active anti-corruption efforts. He made the statement in an interview with the TV channel Region.

According to the SCNS, over 1,000 industrial enterprises and social facilities have been returned to state ownership, along with about 30,000 hectares of land that had been illegally transferred into private hands.

Tashiev noted that at the beginning of his tenure, there were repeated attempts to bribe him.

“Many doubted whether Tashiev could really not be bribed, whether he truly did not take money. There were various situations — at times people even brought boxes of cash to my home to solve their problems. But instead of cooperating, we punished such individuals,” he said.

The SCNS chief also addressed dishonest officials and law enforcement officers, urging them to leave public service if their primary goal is personal financial gain. He stressed that corruption-related crimes not only undermine trust in government but also inflict a “heavy blow” on the families of those detained.
