Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Finance Almaz Baketaev and Matteo Patrone, Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), signed a memorandum of understanding that paves the way for a new framework agreement on supporting priority national projects in municipal infrastructure, irrigation, and transport worth up to €400 million, the Kyrgyz Ministry of Finance informed, Economist.kg reports.
The agreement aims to promote sustainable infrastructure development across Kyrgyzstan, enhance investment efficiency, and strengthen cooperation with one of the country’s key financial partners. As part of this collaboration, the EBRD approved a second tranche of financing totaling €3.3 million, including a €1.6 million grant, for the Bazar-Korgon water supply modernization project.
The project will ensure uninterrupted access to clean drinking water and improved sanitation for at least 60,000 residents of Bazar-Korgon, contributing to better public health and living standards in the region.
According to the Ministry of Finance, this is the seventh sovereign infrastructure project signed with the EBRD in 2025, bringing the Bank’s total investment in Kyrgyz infrastructure to over €100 million.
Officials noted that the new memorandum establishes a strategic foundation for expanding EBRD’s financial support to Kyrgyzstan in coming years. It is expected to help the country implement climate-resilient infrastructure, improve transport connectivity, and modernize public utilities — key elements of Kyrgyzstan’s long-term development agenda.
