Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan signed a package of documents for $1.6 bln

More than 50 documents worth over $1.6 billion were signed in Bishkek on the eve of the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Kyrgyzstan. Among them are investment agreements for $300 million and trade contracts for $1.3 billion, Gazeta.uz reports.

On the eve of the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Kyrgyzstan, on January 26, a business forum of the two countries was held in Bishkek, the press service of the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Kyrgyzstan reported.

Members of governments, heads of relevant ministries, regional administrations, as well as more than 350 representatives of business circles of the two countries took part in its work.

In the speeches of the speakers at the opening ceremony of the forum, it was emphasized that the trade turnover between the two countries has grown 7 times over five years to $1.2 billion in 2022.

At the same time, as it was announced, there is a potential to overcome the $2 billion mark in the near future, including by increasing mutual supplies of cement, coal, non-ferrous metals, agricultural and textile products, chemical fertilizers, household and commercial equipment, pharmaceuticals.

The priority direction of cooperation is the development of industrial cooperation. Agreements were reached on the implementation of new projects in the production of automotive and commercial vehicles, the launch of joint textile enterprises, the production of chemical products, and the introduction of electricity metering systems.

Major projects are being worked out for the development of iron, kaolin, travertine, basalt deposits with subsequent production of products with high added value.

As a result of the forum, a package of more than 50 agreements was signed for a total amount of over $1.6 billion in the chemical, electrical, automotive, textile industries, agriculture, production of building materials, leather goods and other areas.

Investment agreements were signed for $300.3 million, export contracts for $1.15 billion, and import contracts for $223 million.
