The Ministry of Economy of Kyrgyzstan held a series of meetings with a European Commission mission to monitor Kyrgyzstan's compliance with obligations under 27 international conventions as part of its GSP+ status. The meetings took place from November 18 to 22, 2024, reports Economist.kg.
Representatives of the European Commission met with key government agencies and experts to assess the current state of obligation implementation and discuss measures to improve governance, ensure labor rights, protect the environment, and combat climate change, according to the Ministry.
The final meeting was held at the Ministry of Economy of Kyrgyzstan, chaired by Deputy Minister Sanzharbek Bolotov. He emphasized that Kyrgyzstan prioritizes fulfilling its obligations under international conventions.
It is worth noting that GSP+ (the EU’s Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus) is a program aimed at sustainable development and improved governance in developing countries. Participants in the program are required to ratify and implement 27 international conventions. GSP+ status allows duty-free export of over 6,000 products to the EU, including agricultural products, textiles, carpets, and other goods.
