Kyrgyzstan has more than 5,000 deposits of various minerals, including gold, rare earth elements, uranium, thorium, and other valuable metals. This was stated at a briefing by the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources of Kyrgyzstan, Narynbek Satybaldiyev, reports 24.kg.
According to approved state data, Kyrgyzstan's gold reserves amount to just over 1,000 tons. However, geologists estimate the total resources of the country at more than 4,000 tons. Many deposits are complex, containing antimony, copper, zinc, and other metals alongside gold.
He added that the recent lifting of the moratorium opens up new prospects for the development of mineral wealth. This will allow for the extraction of not only gold but also critical metals that are in demand in the global economy.
Narynbek Satybaldiyev noted that to effectively utilize this potential, the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan is developing a strategy for the development of the mineral resource base, which will include plans for exploration, extraction, and processing. Special attention is being paid to rare earth metals, which are essential for the production of high-tech devices and green energy.
It is expected that the implementation of this strategy will create conditions for increased revenue in Kyrgyzstan's mining sector, strengthen the country's economic independence, and attract international investments.
