Kyrgyzstan interested in Karachi port of Pakistan

The Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Edil Baisalov, met with the Director-General of Pakistan's National Logistics Corporation (NLC), General Farrukh Shahzad Rao. In his capacity as co-chair of the Kyrgyz-Pakistani intergovernmental commission, he acquainted the Pakistani delegation with Kyrgyzstan's achievements in socio-economic development over recent years and expressed an interest in developing cooperation in the field of transport, logistics, and trade, as reported by Ritmeurasia.ru.

Reminding that the city of Karachi serves as the nearest seaport for Kyrgyzstan, he discussed President Sadyr Japarov's international initiative to transform the country into a transportation hub, both from east to west and between the north and south.

General Shahzad Rao informed about the transition of the Karachi-Kashgar-Bishkek transport corridor (Karakoram Highway) to year-round operation and the imminent arrival in Bishkek of the first convoy carrying transit cargo in the coming days. Members of the Pakistani delegation also discussed the activities of NLC, Pakistan's largest state-owned transportation and logistics company, and their plans for enhancing cooperation with Kyrgyzstan.

Edil Baisalov proposed to the Pakistani side to consider the possibility of establishing a joint interstate venture for trade and logistics purposes and the opening of a representative office of the National Logistics Corporation of Pakistan in Bishkek.
