Kyrgyzstan leads EAEU in terms of growth in external debt

The external debt of Kyrgyzstan as of October 1, 2022 reached $9 billion 231.1 million. It includes the debt of government bodies, the National Bank, commercial banks of Kyrgyzstan, other sectors and intercompany lending. Such data are provided by the Eurasian Economic Commission, the portal Akchabar.kg reports.

Compared to October 1, 2021, the external debt of Kyrgyzstan increased by $351.1 million or 4%. This is the highest increase in external debt among the EAEU countries, given that Belarus (-1.9%), Kazakhstan (-3.2%) and Russia (-11.4%) saw a reduction in external debt in the period under review, while Armenia registered an increase in debt by only 0.4%.

The growth of external debt in Kyrgyzstan is largely due to its increase in the banking sector (+64.4% per year). At the same time, most of the external debt 45.1% falls on government bodies ($ 4 billion 162.6 million), in which growth was noted by only 0.3%.
