By the end of 2025, Kyrgyzstan reached record-breaking food security levels. According to a report from the Ministry of Agriculture cited by Economist.kg, the republic now fully covers its domestic needs for 6 out of 9 socially significant food categories, significantly reducing reliance on foreign markets.
A Five-Year Leap in Production
Over the past five years, the country has made a qualitative shift in producing critical goods. The most notable dynamics were recorded in the following sectors:
| Product | 2020 Level | 2025 Level | Status |
| Sugar | 15.0% | 82.1% | Near-total independence |
| Meat | 63.6% | 85.7% | Steady growth |
| Milk | 112.0% | 127.3% | Export potential |
| Eggs | 56.4% | 79.8% | High sufficiency |
| Vegetable Oil | 34.0% | 51.7% | 1.5x growth |
Remaining Import Dependencies
Despite these achievements, Kyrgyzstan still relies on foreign supplies in three specific areas:
-
Bakery products (flour and grain);
-
Vegetable oil;
-
Fruits and berries (though sufficiency here rose from 15% to 51.4%).
Impact on the Economy
The Ministry of Agriculture emphasized that strengthening domestic production makes the local market resilient to global price shocks. As the share of local products on shelves increases, retail prices become less sensitive to exchange rate fluctuations and border logistics issues.
