A new square for large-scale events is needed in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, which should become a modern center of urban life and a venue for major state events, reports the press service of the Ministry of Culture of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Background for the ambitious project
The decision to build it was made after a thorough analysis of the current situation.
Kyrgyzstan's Minister of Culture, Altynbek Maksutov, held consultations with the country's top leadership, during which it was noted that the existing Ala-Too Square has insufficient capacity for large-scale events.
"Recent events have clearly shown that Ala-Too Square no longer meets modern requirements and cannot accommodate the number of people that gather for major state events," the Ministry of Culture's press service commented.
Ambitious plans for the future
The new complex is planned to be significantly larger than the existing square.
Preliminary estimates suggest that the square should be able to accommodate up to 100,000 people at once. This will allow for state-scale events to be held on a larger scale, creating opportunities for greater public participation in the country's civic life.
How will the project be implemented?
Although the decision to build a new square has already been made, many project details are still under discussion. In particular, the exact start date of construction and the location of the new complex have not yet been determined.
"Creating such a large-scale facility is a lengthy and complex process, requiring careful planning and coordination of many aspects. We are at the initial stage of this journey," the Ministry of Culture explained.
What will happen to Ala-Too Square?
It's important to note that the implementation of the new project does not mean abandoning the existing infrastructure. Ala-Too Square, which has long been the center of Bishkek's public life, will continue to function as usual.
"We do not plan to close or repurpose Ala-Too Square. It will remain an important part of the city landscape. As a result, Bishkek will have two central squares – the old one and the new one," the Ministry of Culture of Kyrgyzstan emphasized.
Prospects for the city
The creation of a new public space could be an important step in developing Bishkek's urban infrastructure.
This will not only expand the opportunities for large-scale events but could also become a new attraction for residents and tourists, further contributing to the development of Kyrgyzstan’s capital as a modern, dynamically evolving metropolis.
The implementation of this ambitious project will be closely monitored by the public and experts and will undoubtedly become one of the key events in the life of the city in the coming years.
Ala-Too Square in Bishkek was built in 1984 in honor of the 60th anniversary of the formation of the Kyrgyz SSR.
