Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Erlist Akunbekov inspected the first Kyrgyz satellite developed by the state-owned Kyrgyz Asman JSC. The development and assembly of the spacecraft was conducted in Kyrgyzstan for the first time and took approximately two and a half years, Akchabar.kg reported.
The satellite's launch is scheduled for the first week of October from California, USA. The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan is the sole shareholder in the developer company.
The spacecraft is designed primarily for the agricultural sector: the data it collects will enable monitoring of crop and pasture conditions, early detection of drought signs, crop yield forecasts, and rapid assessment of emergency impacts. In addition to agricultural applications, the system will continuously monitor glacier melt, water resource status, and the overall environmental situation in the region.
The creation and launch of Kyrgyzstan's own satellite marks an important step toward technological modernization and ensuring the digital sovereignty of Kyrgyzstan. Direct access to space analytics will reduce the republic's dependence on purchasing foreign data and enable ministries to make proactive decisions in the face of growing climate risks.
The introduction of accurate satellite monitoring will create a long-term foundation for increasing the sustainability of the agricultural sector and the rational management of the country's water resources.
