Kazakhstan has donated five locomotives to Kyrgyzstan as part of agreements reached at the Kyrgyz-Kazakh Intergovernmental Council meeting in December 2024, Akchabar.kg reports, citing Dairbek Orunbekov, head of the Information Policy Service of the Presidential Administration of Kyrgyzstan.

The transferred locomotives have been added to the balance sheet of "Kyrgyz Temir Jolu", the state railway company. The batch includes two mainline locomotives and three shunting locomotives, which will be used for cargo and passenger transportation, as well as station operations.

The Kazakhstan Agency for International Development (KazAID) facilitated the transfer as part of its support for projects in transport, energy, and infrastructure.

“This step reflects the continued successful implementation of official assistance, fostering development and strengthening the brotherly ties between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan,” stated Arken Arystanov, Chairman of KazAID.

The locomotives were previously in service at Karatau, Zhem, and Shymkent stations in Kazakhstan.
