The share of gold in the structure of gold and foreign exchange reserves of Kyrgyzstan slightly decreased in the second quarter of this year and amounted to 51.14%. Such data are presented in the world ranking of the 100 largest countries holding gold and foreign exchange reserves, compiled by the World Gold Council and published in the latest report dated August 2, 2024, Economist.kg reports.
In the new ranking, Kyrgyzstan took 63rd place in the world in terms of gold reserves, compared to 64th place in the previous quarter. In real terms, the country has 25.8 tons of the precious metal in gold and foreign exchange reserves, according to the World Gold Council.
It is known that among the partners in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and neighbors in the Central Asian region, Kyrgyzstan is second only to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in terms of the share of gold in the structure of gold and foreign exchange reserves:
Russia - 29.5% (2,335.9 tons)
Uzbekistan - 75.2% (365.2 tons)
Kazakhstan - 56% (298.8 tons)
Belarus - 48.5% (54.1 tons)
There is no data on Armenia, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan in the August report.
In 2024, Kyrgyzstan ranked 64th in the world among the TOP-100 largest countries holding this precious metal in gold and foreign exchange reserves. At that time, Kyrgyzstan's reserves were estimated at 15.74 tons, and the share of gold in the structure of gold and foreign exchange reserves was 40%.
The World Gold Council was created in 1987 by the world's major gold producers to stimulate demand for the precious metal. Today, the council's members include companies that account for about 60% of global gold mining and production.
