Since the beginning of the irrigation season, Kyrgyzstan has sent about 304.3 million cubic meters of water to Kazakhstan via the Shu and Talas rivers, which is 34.2 million m³ more than the planned volume, the Ministry of Water Resources of Kazakhstan reports.
According to the agreements, 625 million m³ of water should be supplied to Kazakhstan for farmers in the Zhambyl region during the growing season.
To date, over 231 million m³ have already been supplied to farms in the region, which is almost 50 million m³ more than in the same period last year.
58,900 hectares of crop areas have been irrigated in the Zhambyl region. Work continues on the fair distribution and efficient use of irrigation water: schedules for supplying water via canals have been approved, farmers are being consulted on the transition to less moisture-loving crops and night irrigation.
