The volume of foreign investments received by Kyrgyzstan in 2022 amounted to $9 billion 25.6 million. Of these, $4.3 billion came from countries outside the CIS, Akchabar.kg reports.

The largest volume of investments in Kyrgyzstan came from China, totaling $865.7 million. The total amount of Chinese investments in Kyrgyzstan since 2018 has reached $3 billion 404 million. Compared to 2021, Chinese investments increased by 58.3%. However, the largest amount of money that China invested in Kyrgyzstan was in 2015 ($1.3 billion) and 2017 ($996.3 million).

Unexpectedly for many, Malta ranked second in terms of investments in Kyrgyzstan from non-CIS countries. Investments from Malta in 2022 amounted to $628.6 million. Compared to 2021 when the amount was only $178.3 thousand, this is 3.5 times more. Malta surpassed traditionally considered major investors in Kyrgyzstan, such as Turkey, with an investment volume of $440.5 million, the United Kingdom with $291.8 million, and Germany with $125.6 million.

In 2021, Canada invested the most in Kyrgyzstan from Western Hemisphere countries, amounting to $1.8 billion. However, in 2022, Canada reduced its investments in Kyrgyzstan to $40.9 million. The reduction in investments from Canada is related to the nationalization of the Kumtor gold mine, which was owned by the Canadian company Centerra.
