On August 11th, a special commission in Bishkek began the inspection of mosques and madrasas. This was reported by the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan.
Documents of mosques and madrasas are being reviewed, including the plots on which they are located. Educational programs and compliance with sanitary and fire safety measures are also being examined, as stated in the announcement.
According to the Spiritual Administration, appropriate measures are being taken against leaders who were unprepared for the inspection.
Prior to this, the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) reported that following an interdepartmental group's review in the Osh region of Kyrgyzstan, the activities of 39 mosques and 21 educational institutions were suspended, and instructions were issued for 48 mosques and 40 religious educational institutions.
Previously, in the Jalal-Abad region, an interdepartmental commission identified 60 illegally operating mosques.
According to the latest data, Kyrgyzstan has approximately 2,600 mosques, around 100 madrasas, and 10 Islamic institutes.
The population of Kyrgyzstan is 7 million people, of whom over 75% adhere to the Islamic faith.
