Tajikistan’s mining and coal sectors recorded significant growth in the first half of 2025, with sharp increases in production volumes, exports, and employment, the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies announced, Asiaplus.tj repors.

From January to June, mining enterprises produced goods worth 12.7 billion somoni, a 42% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This surge was driven by the expansion of raw material processing, the adoption of modern mining technologies, and the commissioning of new facilities. The development also created thousands of new jobs, including positions for young specialists.

The Tajik-Chinese Mining Company made one of the most notable contributions, increasing output by 1.4 times—from 3.1 billion to 4.5 billion somoni. Other key players in the sector include Anzob Mining and Processing Plant, Dushanbe Mining Industry Enterprise (TVEA Dushanbe), TALCO Gold, Aprelevka, Tilloi Tojik, and Pakrut. All are engaged in implementing the state program for the development of ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, which aims to significantly increase the share of finished products by 2025 compared to 2020 levels.

In the coal industry, production reached 1.06 million tonnes, up 12% year-on-year. Coal was mined by 16 enterprises in 12 districts across the country, with the majority exported to Uzbekistan (over 80%), and the rest shipped to Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Kyrgyzstan.

To further develop the sector, the Ministry is in talks with potential investors from Russia, China, Europe, and Uzbekistan. Plans include constructing the Fon-Yagnob coking coal processing plant and setting up anthracite and coke production at the Nazar-Aylok mine. These projects are part of the intergovernmental economic cooperation agenda and are currently under review.

The Ministry also highlighted the role of President Emomali Rahmon, who personally took part in launching key industrial facilities earlier this year. In April, during a working trip to the Rasht district, he inaugurated new production capacities at TVEA Dushanbe Mining Industry, underscoring the government’s commitment to industrial modernization.
