The gold mining company "Kumtor" will continue to mine gold through open-pit mining until 2031, the company's CEO, Almaz Baryktabasov said.

"According to the 2017 project, gold mining through open-pit methods was supposed to stop by 2023. However, geological exploration was carried out in 2018-2019, based on which the mining operation was reconsidered," Baryktabasov explained.

As a result, they will continue open-pit mining until 2031.

"Through open-pit mining, the plan is to extract 134 tons of gold. Additionally, there's underground mining with estimated reserves of around 100 tons. There's also approximately 120 tons of gold in waste storage. Therefore, the operations could extend until 2040," Baryktabasov clarified.
