The accumulation of cargo trucks at the border crossing between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan has been increasing for about a week. Customs inspection from the Kazakhstan side is being conducted very slowly.

On August 23, within the territory of Kyrgyzstan at the entrance to Kazakhstan, there is a kilometer-long buildup of freight vehicles, as reported by "Kazinform" citing the press service of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan.

As of 1:00 PM, there is a queue of 493 trucks in front of the "Ak-Tilek-Avto" and 146 vehicles at the "Ken-Bulun-Avto" checkpoints. In the past 24 hours, 112 vehicles have exited Kyrgyzstan and entered Kazakhstan.

It is noted that the passage points on the Kyrgyz side are operating in their regular mode. On the eve, under the instruction of the Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Akylbek Zhaparov, assistance tents were set up near the buildup of trucks in the Chui region of Kyrgyzstan, at the "Ak-Tilek-Avto" checkpoint. Drivers and freight carriers are provided with medical, psychological, and advisory assistance, as well as hot meals.

Earlier, information emerged online that over 370 trucks are standing at the Kyrgyzstan border section. The reason was voiced by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Kazakhstan, Yerulan Zhamaubayev. "As far as I know, there is no customs there, it's the internal border of the EAEU (Eurasian Economic Union). As far as I know, there was an operation to detain narcotics, so now there is thorough checking from the side, most likely by the border service and the National Security Committee. There were absolutely no instructions regarding commercial cargo," Yerulan Zhamaubayev said in the Government's corridors.

Meanwhile, within a day, 274 vehicles have entered Kyrgyzstan from Kazakhstan. The Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan has not imposed any restrictions, and the crossing point is operating in its regular mode.

Official authorities of Kazakhstan are not commenting on the situation at the border crossing between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. Meanwhile, in Kyrgyzstan, opinions are already openly expressed on social media that the reason for the buildup of freight vehicles from Kyrgyzstan is the cessation of irrigation water flow from reservoirs in Kyrgyzstan to the southern regions of Kazakhstan. This situation arose due to a sharp decrease in water inflow from the high mountains of Kyrgyzstan, while Kazakhstan has already exhausted its water quota for the 2023 season.
