It is more profitable to import electricity from Turkmenistan than to generate it at the republic's thermal power plants, Kyrgyz Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev said, Tazabek.kg reports. He stated this following the results of the working meeting of the Commette on defense, security and migration of Kyrgyz Parliament.

“Compared to electricity generated at a thermal power plant, it will be cheaper. Naturally, the cheapest electricity is the energy generated by hydroelectric power plants. But today we do not have such an opportunity,” the official said, answering the question of one of the deputies whether electricity from Turkmenistan would be expensive for the population.

The energy sector of Kyrgyzstan is switching to a more environmentally friendly and cheaper import of energy resources, gradually abandoning the use of hydrocarbon raw materials to generate electricity and increasing its imports from neighboring countries.

Thus, Turkmenistan has become a key exporter of electricity to Kyrgyzstan.
