The National Bank of Kyrgyzstan conducted eight interventions in 2022, during which $486.5 million was sold and $190.7 million was bought. Net sales revenue amounted to $295.7 million, Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan Kaiyp Kulenbekov said at a meeting of the country's parliament, the Economist.kg reports.

“The official exchange rate was set based on the market. We installed it so as not to create instability,” Kulenbekov said, answering a question from MP Meikinbek Abdaliyev.

After the influx of relocators from Russia began in September 2022, there was a shortage of cash dollars in Kyrgyzstan, and exchange offices do not issue them either. Money transferred from abroad in dollars or euros is also issued in the national currency.

Cash foreign currency in Kyrgyzstan has become a deficit. At the same time, American dollars, in parallel with exchange offices, can be purchased through groups in the Telegram channel, where sellers offer dollars at a higher rate than set by the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan.

To date, the official exchange rate of 1 US dollar is 85.68. In the Telegram channel, US dollar buyers offer an exchange at the rate of 87 soms.
