Kazakhstan has increased the vehicle throughput at the border with Kyrgyzstan from 2-3 cars to 8-9 cars per hour, the press service of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) reports, following a delegation's visit to the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border to assess the situation of abnormal accumulation of freight vehicles.
On August 24, a monitoring group from the EEC, led by Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Arzybek Kozhoshev, visited the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border and observed the passage of Kyrgyz international carriers through the "Ak-Tilek" road checkpoint, according to the statement.
"The Kyrgyz side demonstrated to the monitoring group a significant accumulation of vehicles, which was formed due to a significant reduction in the capacity at the border checkpoint from the Kazakh side.
As of August 24, the passage of freight vehicles from the Kazakh side was increased from 2-3 cars to 8-9 cars per hour," the EEC reported.
According to Kyrgyz media reports, the number of trucks waiting to enter Kazakhstan has decreased from about 600 to 380 over the last day since the EEC monitoring group visited the checkpoint.
