The rank of army general was conferred on President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The relevant Resolution was adopted by the Mejlis of Turkmenistan on January 26, Turkmen media reported.
The title was awarded to the 41-year-old head of state on the eve of Defender of the Fatherland Day, which is celebrated in Turkmenistan on January 27.
Ex-president of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also holds the military rank of army general.
Recall that in 2017, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who at that time was a member of parliament, was awarded the Myalikguly Berdimuhamedov medal (named after his grandfather) and promoted from major to lieutenant colonel (in the title photo).
Serdar Berdimuhamedov was elected President of Turkmenistan after the voluntary resignation of his father Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov from this position in early 2022. He took office as head of state in March 2022 and announced that he would continue his father's course.
Berdimuhamedov Senior was elected head of the country's legislative body in January 2023. He has the title of National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan since January 21, 2023. He led Turkmenistan from 2006 to 2022.
