At the first session of Kazakhstan's new highest advisory body, the Khalyk Kenesi, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced the key results of socioeconomic reforms over the past seven years, Tengrinews.kz reported.
The country's GDP grew by 29% to $306 billion, the volume of attracted investment exceeded $162 billion, and the combined reserves of the National Fund and gold and foreign exchange assets exceeded $138 billion.
The share of small and medium-sized businesses in the economy exceeded 40%. The president also highlighted significant social indicators: the opening of 1,342 schools, 1,200 healthcare facilities, and the repair of 35,000 kilometers of roads, which increased the average life expectancy of citizens to 76 years. Addressing the 126-delegate council, chaired by Erlan Koshanov, Tokayev emphasized that reforms require genuine dialogue with citizens, not populism.
The released macroeconomic data demonstrate that, despite foreign policy turbulence, Astana maintains financial stability, actively expands infrastructure, and increases the share of the private sector. In turn, the institutional launch of the Khalyk Kenesi aims to strengthen direct public participation in government. The new body aims to directly channel public demand into the legislative process, prevent populism, and strengthen trust between the government and citizens.
