Full membership of Uzbekistan in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) will allow the removal of several obstacles for exporting its products to the union's countries, said Oleg Malginov, the Russian Ambassador to Tashkent, to reporters, RIA Novosti reports.

In early December 2020, Uzbekistan obtained the status of an observer country in the EAEU.

"EAEU remains the key direction for the export of Uzbek products today, and Uzbekistan's full membership in it will remove tariff, non-tariff, customs, and other barriers," Malginov said at a press conference on the results of Russian-Uzbek cooperation in 2023.

According to the Russian Ambassador, this move will provide additional opportunities for Uzbekistan's businesses, new markets, and conditions for fair competition.

Malginov deemed it logical "in terms of further intensification of economic ties between our countries," for Uzbekistan to participate in the EAEU as an observer, interact with the Eurasian Economic Commission, and decide to join the Eurasian Development Bank.

"We consider the work carried out by Uzbekistan on harmonizing national legislation with union standards and norms important," added the ambassador.

The Eurasian Economic Union is an international integration economic union that has been functioning since January 1, 2015. The member states are Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. Since May 2018, Moldova has been an observer in the EAEU. However, with coming to power of President Maia Sandu, Moldova is reducing its participation in the EAEU.

In 2020, the leaders of the EAEU countries decided to grant observer status to Cuba in the integration union.
