The company "Nebras Power" from Qatar and the Japanese corporation "Sojitz" are preparing to implement a project for the construction of a wind power station with a capacity of 1 GW in the Navoi region of Uzbekistan, the statement of the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan says.

It is planned that the investors will carry out the construction of the wind power station using the mechanism of joint financing established under the agreement between Uzbekistan and Japan.

Additionally, the sale of carbon credits generated during the implementation of the environmental energy project is envisaged.

Currently, "Nebras Power" and "Sojitz Corporation" are working in Uzbekistan in partnership on the project for the construction of the Sirdarya-2 combined-cycle thermal power station with a capacity of 1.6 GW.

The general contractor for this project is "Enersok Foreign Enterprise," and the Japan International Cooperation Bank has provided a loan of $400 million.

In October 2023, "Nebras Power" announced its plans to build a 1 GW wind power station in Karakalpakstan and to establish energy storage systems with a capacity of 600 MW in the Tashkent region.

What wind and solar power stations are there in Uzbekistan?

Wind power stations in Uzbekistan:

- Gujarat Wind Power Station: Located in the Bukhara region, this station is one of the country's first wind energy projects. With a capacity of over 50 megawatts, it contributes to increasing the share of renewable energy sources in Uzbekistan's energy structure.
- Wind power station construction project in Karakalpakstan: This project aims to create a wind power station with a capacity of 1 gigawatt. It is part of Uzbekistan's strategy to develop alternative energy sources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Solar power stations in Uzbekistan:

- Navoi Solar Power Station: Located in the Navoi region, this solar power station is the largest solar project in the country. It provides a significant share of energy in the region and contributes to reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
- Surkhandarya Solar Power Station: This project includes several solar farms in the Surkhandarya region. With their help, Uzbekistan aims to increase the share of renewable energy sources in its energy system and ensure energy supply stability.

The development of wind and solar energy in Uzbekistan reflects the country's commitment to sustainable development and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

These projects not only contribute to environmental sustainability but also create new opportunities for economic development and reducing harmful emissions.
