President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev hosted executives of Qatar's Power International Holding (PIH), Muataz Al-Hayat and Ramez Al-Hayat, at his residence in Astana. The parties discussed prospects for implementing joint investment projects in the energy and telecommunications sectors, Kazinform reports.
During the meeting, Tokayev emphasized that large-scale gas projects in processing, transportation, and power generation remain the cornerstone of Kazakhstan-Qatar investment cooperation. According to the president, these projects make a significant contribution to strengthening the country's energy security.
Power International Holding's leadership informed the president about plans to expand its presence in Kazakhstan's telecommunications market. In early 2025, the holding completed the acquisition of Mobile Telecom Service, which operates the Tele2 and Altel brands.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed confidence that the participation of the Qatari company will contribute to modernizing telecommunications infrastructure, improving service quality, and expanding accessibility for Kazakhstan's population.
Power International Holding (PIH) is one of Qatar's largest multi-sector conglomerates, operating in construction, food production, healthcare, and information technology. The Tele2/Altel deal represents one of PIH's most significant investments in Central Asia's telecommunications sector.
Following the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation and implementing promising investment projects of mutual interest to Kazakhstan and Qatar.
