The National Bank of Kazakhstan has published data showing that Russia became the largest investor in the republic in 2024, Kursiv.kz reports.

The volume of foreign direct investment (FDI) from Russia to Kazakhstan in 2024 reached $4 billion, surpassing the $3 billion recorded in 2023. The total volume of FDI in Kazakhstan in 2024 amounted to $17.1 billion, with Russia accounting for 23.6% of the total.

According to Kazakhstan's National Bank statistics, which have been maintained since 2005, this is the highest figure on record. In 2014, Russian investments first exceeded $1.5 billion, but later declined. Until 2011, investments from Russia were below $1 billion.

After Russia, the Netherlands is the second-largest investor in Kazakhstan, with $3.8 billion in 2024. However, this figure has declined to its lowest level since 2007. On average, the Netherlands invests $5–8 billion annually in Kazakhstan and was the top investor in the country before 2024.

In 2024,

  • South Korea invested $1.22 billion in Kazakhstan,

  • Belgium invested $1.2 billion,

  • China invested $1.19 billion.

The gross inflow of FDI in Kazakhstan includes capital investments, reinvested earnings, and the growth of debt obligations.
