Kyrgyzstan will receive 2.2 billion rubles (about $323 million) from Rosatom Corporation. The funds are earmarked for the reclamation of five tailing dumps located on the territory of Kyrgyzstan. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan Azamat Mambetov, Asia-today.news reports.
The funds will be allocated within the framework of the interstate program "Reclamation of territories of states affected by uranium mining." The reclamation of tailings in the village of Kaji-Sai in the Issyk-Kul region and the village of Min-Kush in the Naryn region is already being completed in Kyrgyzstan. This is the first stage of the implementation of the plans. The second stage will start soon. The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan and Rosatom plan to complete it before the end of this year.
In total, there are 92 burial sites of toxic and radioactive substances in Kyrgyzstan, 36 of which are located in the city of Mailuu-Suu.
