Serdar Gurbangulyevich Berdimuhamedov was born on September 22, 1981 in Ashgabat, Turkmen SSR.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov is the President of Turkmenistan and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of Turkmenistan since March 19, 2022.
Serdar is the only son of the second President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
In 2001, he graduated from Turkmen Agricultural University named after Sapar Niyazov with a degree in process engineering. At that time, his father was the Minister of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, and in 2001, in parallel, one of the deputy chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers of the country, headed by President Saparmurat Niyazov.
In 2008-2011, Serdar Berdimuhamedov was the Minister Counselor of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Russian Federation, in Moscow. There he graduated from the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation under the second higher education program with a degree in international relations.
In 2011-2013, he was an adviser to the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva.
In 2016-2017, he headed the Department of International Information of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
In November 2016, he was elected a deputy of the unicameral Mejlis of Turkmenistan of the 5th convocation in by-elections for vacant seats from the ruling Democratic Party.
On March 20, 2017, he was elected Chairman of the Committee on Legislation and its Norms of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan of the same convocation.
On February 7, 2020, he was appointed the Minister of Industry of Turkmenistan, worked until February 11, 2021. Then he became the Vice Prime Minister of Turkmenistan for Innovation and Digitalization, and later for Economics and Finance.
Then, on February 11, 2021, he was appointed the Chairman of the Supreme Control Chamber of Turkmenistan and a member of the State Security Council of Turkmenistan.
On February 14, 2022, the ruling Democratic Party nominated Serdar Berdimuhamedov as a candidate for the presidency of Turkmenistan in early presidential elections, in which he won a landslide victory and became the third President of Turkmenistan.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov has been married since 2001 and, according to some reports, has four children - a son and three daughters.
