Shanghai LinkWise Data Intelligence Co, a Chinese technology firm, is planning to build two high-capacity data centers in Uzbekistan, according to the press service of the country’s Ministry of Energy, as reported by Gazeta.uz.
On July 24, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, met with representatives of the Chinese company. During the visit, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding for the construction of a 300 MW data center in the Bukhara region. A similar facility is also planned for the Surkhandarya region.
The discussions also covered the broader involvement of Chinese investors in Uzbekistan’s energy sector, with both parties outlining future cooperation and agreeing to accelerate project preparation and implementation under the signed memorandum.
Meanwhile, another major initiative is underway in the country. In June, Saudi company DataVolt announced the launch of what is set to become the region’s largest green data center. The firm plans to invest $6.5 billion in the project by 2030. Uzbekistan has been selected as the key location for infrastructure development in Central Asia.
The first phase of construction has already begun at the Tashkent IT Park, with the second phase scheduled for Bukhara.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev previously announced that by 2026, Uzbekistan aims to launch a national cloud technology platform and build up to 20 data centers with a combined capacity of over 500 MW, in cooperation with international investors.
All data centers are expected to operate on renewable energy and will be certified to meet international environmental standards. According to Oleg Pekos, First Deputy Minister of Digital Technologies, this aligns with the needs of global tech companies that are increasingly focused on reducing their carbon footprint.
