Shavkat Mirziyoyev is the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan since December 14, 2016.

He worked as the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan from December 12, 2003 to December 14, 2016.

After an investigation by a number of journalists and publications, it became clear that the native of the Tajik village of Yakhtan is Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s grandfather from his father’s side, and Shavkat Mirziyoyev himself is an Uzbek. In the official biography of the president, his nationality is listed as Uzbek. Almost all residents of Yakhtan are ethnic Uzbeks today.

He has two sisters, a half-brother and a sister. Mirziyoyev is married to Ziroathon Khoshimova and has two daughters, a son and five grandchildren. His elder son-in-law, Oybek Tursunov, is currently the head of presidential administration, while his younger son-in-law, Otabek Shakhanov, is the head of the presidential security service.

Since coming to power, Mirziyoyev has built a new residence for himself in the Kibray area. The residence of his predecessor Islam Karimov in Tashkent has been turned into a museum named after him.
