Tajikistan's GDP grew by 8.4% by the end of 2025. According to a macroeconomic review by the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), the main drivers were the rapid growth of industry and a sharp increase in remittances from migrant workers, Asiaplus.tj reports.

Industrial production in the country jumped by 22.1%. Key indicators:

  • Mining: +36.2%;
  • Energy: +13%;
  • Manufacturing: +10.5%.

Analysts are recording an unprecedented increase in remittances from migrant workers—up 50% in dollar terms over the first three quarters of 2025.

Tajikistan is among the countries in the world most dependent on remittances from migrant workers.

According to the World Bank, remittances to the country totaled $5.8 billion in 2024.

Migrant remittances accounted for 45.4% of Tajikistan's GDP last year, the highest figure in the world in relative terms.

These funds provided an influx of foreign currency and spurred domestic consumption: investments grew by 23%, and retail sales by 14.4%.

The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) expects this strong momentum to continue: projected economic growth this year will be 8.1%. Despite the confidentiality of official remittance data, experts emphasize that migrants' remittances remain the primary means of covering the trade balance deficit and filling the budget through consumption taxes.
